Central 1 – Omnichannel Digital Banking

Reimagining digital banking for hundreds of Credit Unions and millions of users.

Central 1, based in Vancouver, Canada, provides wholesale financial products, trust services, payment processing solutions and digital banking services to about 300 credit unions and institutional clients across Canada.  In addition, Central 1 is the primary liquidity manager, payments provider and trade association for 42 member credit unions in B.C. along with 70 Ontario member credit unions. These members represent a consumer-oriented, full-service retail financial network that collectively serves 3.3 million members and holds more than $118.8 billion in assets.

PointOne and Central 1 embarked on a multi-year journey to reimagine the online banking (web and app)  functionality and user experience platform used by 100s of their member Credit Unions.  Partnering with Central 1 and Backbase, we created a holistic user experience design system that is flexible based on specific product offerings, user attributes, and brand considerations.  The design system was particularly complex as it needed to support hundreds of brands, use cases and be able to be implemented on Backbase’s platform.
